$751K grant award helps more than 975 workers affected by GE Transportation layoffs in Erie, Pennsylvania

Use of Funds: The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded $751,250 in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act National Dislocated Worker Grant funding to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry to provide reemployment services to workers impacted by layoffs announced by GE Transportation in Erie on Nov. 6, 2015. The company employed the affected workers in the manufacture of marine and stationary drills, train locomotives and off-highway vehicles.

All of the workers targeted for National Dislocated Worker Grant services have been certified as eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance. This dual enrollment project will provide these TAA-certified workers with access to “wrap-around” and supportive services that are not available through the TAA program.
